Artist StatementWith my creative practice I aim to start conversations and collaborations between the individual, the artwork, and the audience. Fine art and personal interests in psychology and social philosophy collide to produce a body of contemporary works. By using text and schematic design with the humble materials of pen and paper, these works question ‘connection’ (between people) in modern society. The language in my work originates from conversations with others, making the works a sharing between the public rather than a direct statement from the artist. Some can be described as text portraiture whilst others focus on instilling a thoughtfulness towards the current state of an element of society.
The communicative process of my work is of great importance to my practice, and I aim to support a sharing public communication that reduces segregation and increases our willingness to open up to vulnerable connection in order to reach better understanding and appreciation. This, I believe, is the pathway to a more peaceful contentment within our modern societies. |
